We invite you to lose yourself in the Manu jungle, which spans 2 million hectares. Home to numerous species and a prime destination for spotting jaguars and the world’s largest rodent, the capybara, immerse yourself in the dense vegetation and the thrill of one of our night hikes.
With our Amazon tour, check the map and we’ll take you to the most remote corners of the Amazon, far from civilization and in the comfort of our treehouses. You’ll embark on your expeditions with local guides who have extensive knowledge of the area, following our exclusive routes through Manu.
Cusco
4:30 AM
Your Amazon expedition in Manu begins with a 5:00 a.m. pick-up from your Cusco hotel. You will then be taken from the rugged slopes of the Andes to the lush Amazon rainforest. Your first stop will be Paucartambo, which sits at an altitude of 2,906 metres. Here, you will be served a typical breakfast of coffee or juice. After enjoying breakfast and taking in the magic of Paucartambo, you will head to the ‘Tres Cruces’ or ‘Acjanco’ viewpoint.
Halfway through your journey through Manu National Park, you will ascend to 3,900 metres to marvel at the view of the Amazon basin stretching out below.
Over the next few hours, you will begin to explore the Manu cloud forest. This forest is home to unique animals such as capuchin monkeys, woolly monkeys, and Peru’s national bird: the cock-of-the-rock. Our drive will end at Puerto de Atalaya, where we will board a motorboat for a two-hour journey down the Madre de Dios River to its confluence with the Palotoa River. From there, we will continue exploring the river in a smaller boat designed for shallow waters. At sunset, we will arrive at the Amazon Treehouse.
On the second day, we’ll start the day before sunrise. Our first activity will be to visit the parrot and macaw clay lick, which is a must-see attraction in Manu National Park. The cliff is filled with parrots and macaws that flock here to get the nutrients they need for the day — they never disappoint!
The clay contains specific minerals that help these birds clean and heal themselves.
After breakfast at the Amazon Treehouse, we’ll head out to explore one of the trails. There you will find some fantastic medicinal plants. As always, the tour guide will explain their uses along the way.
The deeper you venture into the forest, the more wildlife you’ll spot, including snakes, insects, sloths and anteaters.
Enjoy a buffet lunch featuring jungle cuisine.
In the afternoon, we’ll explore one of the lakes, home to white caiman and snakes, before enjoying an exciting night-time excursion.
Today, we will return to the small boat (peque-peque) that took us to explore the remote heart of the Manu jungle. We start by navigating the Palotoa River to meet the Negro River, where we will begin our hike, accompanied by our guide and driver.
This exciting adventure in the Amazon takes us along muddy trails, across rivers and through dense, untouched forest.
There will be time for a packed lunch outdoors, and in the afternoon, we will return to Amazon Treehouse.
After breakfast today, we’ll get ready for our tubing adventure. We’ll float down the Palotoa River on inner tubes, enjoying the calm, beautiful waters of the Amazon while watching noisy macaws soar through the sky and monkeys swing from the trees. After this relaxing activity, please join us in the dining room for a traditional jungle meal.
But our adventure isn’t over yet! We’ll then cross the river to explore the other side of the Manu jungle. At night, don’t forget to grab your torch as we head out in search of the Amazonian tarantula!
On the final day of the Manu Amazon Tour, we will start with a sumptuous breakfast in the rainforest. Afterwards, we will set off by boat for Atalaya Pier. There, our team will be waiting with a shuttle to take us back to Cusco.
En route, we will stop in Paucartambo for lunch. We will arrive in Cusco at around 5 pm, marking the end of our journey. We assure you that this experience will be like no other, leaving you with overwhelming memories of this masterpiece of a journey.
The Amazon rainforest is beautiful. I really liked going to the Macaw Clay licks. The short jungle trips were also fascinating.
