Day 1Paucartambo-Paucartambo-Cusco-Port Atalaya-Amazon Treehouse

 Paucartambo-Cusco-Puerto Atalaya-Amazon Treehouse Lodge

The 7-day tour of the Manu Reserved Zone begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco. The plan for the day is to drive through the Andean highlands until reaching the Amazon rainforest. During the journey,

We will make a brief stop for breakfast in Paucartambo, a town in the Andean region famous for preserving Inca culture, folk dances, and songs.

After enjoying the charm of the town, we will head to a beautiful viewpoint known as Paso de Tres Cruces or Paso de Acjano.

This is the highest point on the Manu Rainforest tour from Cusco. Located at 3,900 meters above sea level, it offers a breathtaking view of the Amazon basin.

Manu Biosphere Reserve

After enjoying the view, we will descend to the Manu Cloud Forest. There, we will take a short walk. You will be able to observe a wide variety of flora and fauna.

This region of the Manu Biosphere Reserve is inhabited by Peru’s national bird, the Andean cock-of-the-rock. Here you can also observe the capuchin monkey and the woolly monkey.

After enjoying a typical meal in the hummingbird garden, we will transfer you to the port of Atalaya. Here, we will begin a motorboat trip along the Madre de Dios River. We will navigate towards the Palotoa River, where our adventure continues in a small boat designed for shallow rivers. We will arrive at sunset at the Amazon Treehouse.

Day 2Amazon Tree house - Parrot Clay Lick

Parrot Clay Lick: Your day begins before dawn with a visit to the parrot and macaw clay lick. Here, you will observe these birds as they come to the cliff to obtain essential minerals that help to cleanse and heal their bodies. After breakfast, you will hike along the trails and learn about the various medicinal plants and their uses from the guide. You may also spot wildlife such as snakes, insects, sloths and anteaters during the hike. You will then enjoy a buffet lunch featuring typical jungle cuisine. In the afternoon, you will explore one of the lakes, which is home to white caimans and snakes. The day will conclude with an exciting night hike to observe jungle activity in the dark.

Day 3Amazon Treehouse - Casa Matsiguenka Lodge

We’ll start the day with a boat trip along the Alto Madre de Dios River to the Manu Reserved Zone. We will enjoy breakfast on the boat while taking in the radiant Amazonian sunrise. Our first stop will be Limonal, a checkpoint for Manu National Park, where we will register.

As we travel along the Manu River, we may spot capybaras, caimans and jaguars on the riverbanks. In the biosphere reserve, you can watch herons feeding in the river and on the Manu riverbanks. Upon arrival at Casa Machiguenga Lodge, there will be another short walk.

Day 4Casa Matsiguenka Lodge – Salvador Lagoon –Macaw Clay Lick

Your time in the Manu Reserved Zone is precious, so we’ll make the most of it! At dawn, we’ll explore Cocha Salvador by catamaran, a traditional jungle boat.

 

Keep your eyes peeled while on board! The diverse wildlife inhabiting the Amazon is a sight to behold. You will almost certainly see giant river otters, black caimans and alligators. You will also have the opportunity to observe numerous species of monkeys and birds. On the way back, we’ll visit the macaw clay lick.

In the afternoon, we’ll return to the lodge for lunch. Later, you’ll have the chance to explore the nature reserve, home to the tiny pocket monkey.

After dinner, we’ll go on a night tour. Afterwards, we’ll return to the lodge. During this trip to the Manu Reserved Zone, you might see alligators, tapirs, owls and even snakes!

  • Distance covered: The day involves close-range exploration around Cocha Salvador, including a few hours of paddling on the lake.
  • Highest altitude: Will remain consistent as we will be at the same lodge

  • Level of difficulty: Moderate (Depending on the physical condition of participant., The treks and night walk might require a reasonable level of fitness)

Day 5Casa Matsiguenka Lodge - Hot Springs- AmazonTreehouse

From Casa Matsiguenka Lodge. At 5:00 am, we will embark on a 5-hour motorised boat trip along the Manu River. Here, we will have the opportunity to see the majestic jaguar basking in the first rays of sunlight and witness a beautiful sunrise — a truly unforgettable experience. The calm waters of the Manu River are an impressive place to observe caimans, capybaras, tapirs and sloths.

Breakfast will be served on board so you can make the most of your time with us.

Afterwards, we will change direction and head upstream on the more challenging waters of the Madre de Dios River to reach the Palotoa River. This part of the journey is slightly longer, but offers breathtaking views. The river teems with life, providing an opportunity to observe numerous species of birds feeding on fish. It’s a truly impressive spectacle! Before reaching our destination, you will have time to relax in the rainforest hot springs — a well-deserved break after the long boat journey.

Upon arrival at the Palotoa River, we will transfer to a smaller boat (the Peke Peke), which is designed for navigating shallow waters, and continue our journey for another hour to reach the Tree House.

  • Distance covered: The journey from Casa Matsigenka to the Amazon Tree House involves mostly boat-based travel with some walking.
  • Highest altitude: Approximately 500 meters or 1,640 feet (as we descend towards the Tree House Inn)

  • Level of difficulty: Easy (The day consists mostly of boat-based travel and short walks)

The fourth day of our Amazon Trips Peru Tour promises more adventures and breathtaking sights. We will journey further into the jungle trips from Cusco.

Day 6Parrot Clay Lick/– Piranha fishing– Treehouse Inn – River Tubing

Today, we will depart at dawn to visit the Parrot Clay Lick. This is undoubtedly the most breathtaking sight in Manu National Park and an unmissable experience. You will see hundreds of parrots of every colour of the rainbow perched on the cliff, happily eating clay.

The clay contains a special mineral that helps them to eliminate toxins from their bodies. Afterwards, we’ll return to Amazon Treehouse for breakfast.

Afterwards, we will begin a hike along the main trail that circles the Amazon Treehouse. We’ll visit a small lagoon home to dangerous piranhas and have a go at catching some. Lunch will be provided.

Afterwards, you’ll have free time. In the afternoon, we will go tubing on the Palotoa River and enjoy a float trip through its crystal-clear waters.

After enjoying the sunset over the Amazon, dinner will be served.

This evening, we’ll take another excursion into the jungle to look for nocturnal animals.

  • Distance covered: 6 kilometers on foot
  • Maximum altitude: approximately 550 meters (1804 feet) above sea level.
  • Minimum altitude: 400 meters (1312 feet) above sea level.
  • Level of difficulty: Easy (Day five involves mostly activities fishing back to the lodge.)

Day five of the Manu Trips Peru Tour brings unique cultural interactions. It also includes rainforest exploration, and the tranquility of the Amazon Treehouse.

Day 7Amazon Treehouse to Atalaya Port to Paucartambo to Cusco

After breakfast, we will head back. The sailing route leads to Atalaya pier. Our private transport will be waiting at the pier to take you back to Cusco city. On the return journey of Manu Reserved Zone Tours, we will stop once more in Paucartambo for lunch.

We’ll arrive in Cusco at around 5 PM in the evening.
