At Bio Manu Expeditions we offer the best travel experiences to the Manu National Park. Our tours go to the Manu Cultural Zone and the Manu Reserved Zone. Both areas are similar, but have some key differences. The Cultural Zone has some small human communities, which survive practicing agriculture and sustainable wood production.
On the other hand, the Manu Reserved Zone hasn’t almost been touched by humanity. The only human inhabitants of this region are really small native communities, some of which live in voluntary isolation from the rest of the world. Nonetheless, the Manu National Park has a great biodiversity in all its areas. Many of the unique species that live in the Manu are endangered. Some examples are the black caiman, the giant otter, and the spectacled bear.
The Manu National Park also offers numerous activities to its visitors. These activities mainly consist on boat rides, short treks through the jungle and wildlife watching. The most notorious places are the Macaw Clay Licks or “Collpas”. The Collpas are spots where hundreds of macaws and parrots gather to eat clay. Some biologists suggest that these birds engage in this behavior to obtain minerals necessary for their diet.
