Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Paucartambo – Tres Cruces – Atalaya Port – Manu Rainforest Lodge

Start your Manu Amazon Tours with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco around 6 In the morning. Your bus will help you transition from the Heavy, steep Andes to the screening-bulging Amazon. Your first stop is at Paucartambo, 2906 meters. Here, you will be given a customary breakfast, and your guide will tell you about the local culture and rituals. Once you absorb the magic of Paucartambo, we are off to the viewing spot “Tres Cruces” or “Acjano.”

At the midpoint of our journey in Manu National Park, we will take a tour from Cuzco. We will travel 3900 meters into the sky and marvel at the view of the Amazon basin, which rests just below.

In the upcoming days, we will begin our exploration into the Manu cloud forest with its orchid gardens and diverse wildlife along with fascinating flora. This forest is also a shelter for unique animals such as the cappuccino monkey, the wooly monkey, and the Peruvian national bird, the cock of the rock. Following the assortment of local delicacies, we will head towards Atalaya Port where we will transfer to a speedboat, which will take us through the Madre de Dios River.

With this region being home to many bird species, such as the regal harpy eagle and an array of butterflies, there is a lot of wildlife to appreciate. A few moments of pause after our initial transition will allow us to advance towards the second boat that will guide us to Manu Rainforest Lodge, which is located in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon region. Once we check, have a divine Amazon dinner along with a guided night hike to explore the moonlight fauna’s claim to fame: the plethora of nocturnal creatures.

Day 2Manu Rainforest Lodge - Jungle Tour - Treehouse INN

We will begin our day with a fulfilling breakfast before boarding our new boat on the Palotoa and Manu rivers, the Peke, named after its diesel motors’ crude sound. With this, the peke will take us deep into the Manu jungle to our very own exclusive Treehouse Inn.

At the furthest point in Manu Jungle lies Treehouse INN, which is exclusively reserved for our guests. During your boat journey from Manu Rainforest Lodge to the Inn, you may enjoy captivating views of the cloud forests. In the region, one can also spot many rodents, such as Capybaras, as well as some mammals.

On reaching Treehouse INN, you will spellbound by the warm welcome from our staff. Before we set out for the region, you will be allowed some time to check into your respective rooms. The area has many unique creatures and bird species. You may find gigantic trees and other life forms along the guided path.

Our local guide will also reveal a few local flora with medicinal values. The local tribes use them as herbal medicine for ailing individuals.

Later on in the day, we will proceed to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, we plan to extend our stroll and explore deeper portions of the Manu Jungle. Scattered throughout the jungle are native birds waiting to be spotted. These include dazzling macaws and parrots, industrious woodpeckers, and agile hummingbirds.

For dinner, we head back to the lodge and watch the sunset, which is invariably beautiful. After dinner, we take a stroll. If you are lucky enough, you may come across some of the more elusive wildlife, like howler monkeys. Kalinoski rats, pygmy owls, tarantulas, spiders, and coral snakes also inhabit this region.

Make sure to bring along your flashlight for the night walk. After that, we will head back to the Treehouse INN. Get some good sleep while the heart of the Amazon surrounds you, ready for a new day.

The cliff is filled with parrots and macaws that come in droves to get their nutrients for the day, and they never disappoint.

The clay is made of specific minerals that help these birds cleanse and heal. We will spend enough time here to finish breakfast and enjoy the sights.

After breakfast, we will head to the other popular trail around the village. There, you will find some fantastic medicinal plants. As always, the tour guide will explain their use during the trip.

The deeper into the forest you venture, the more wildlife you can spot, including snakes, jaguars, and pumas, as well as sloths, anteaters, and tapirs. We will keep a safe distance from observing them in their natural habitat, and we will rest in the middle of the rainforest for lunch.

Our exploration of trek trails will resume after lunch. Be ready to witness various species of flora and fauna, birds and animals alike.

We will head back to the lodge for dinner as the sun sets over Manu, Peru while taking in the breathtaking scenery. An evening stroll through the jungle rounds off the day, giving you the opportunity to spot more wildlife active during the night.

The Amazon rainforest is beautiful. I really liked going to the Macaw Clay licks. The short jungle trips were also fascinating.
