Manu Amazon Peru

Prepare for an extraordinary journey from Cusco to Manu National Park. Over six days, we will journey through the Peruvian Amazon. A tour guide will lead us through 1.5 million hectares (3.7 million acres) of tropical rainforest. This is the Manu Amazon Peru tour.

Day one will see us leave Cusco. We’ll head towards Paucartambo, before reaching the Rainforest Lodge. The cloud forest here will amaze you. 

It’s a key part of the Amazon basin. Expect unique bird watching experiences. Look out for the Cock of the Rock, Peru’s national bird.

Day two will lead us from the Rainforest Lodge to Casa Matsiguenka. This area is a cultural zone in Manu. It’s full of native traditions. You’ll feel part of the community.

On day three, we’ll move from Casa Matsiguenka to Cocha Salvador. You’ll find lowland tropical forest and its diverse life here. Keep an eye out for the giant river otters.

Day four takes us back to Casa Matsiguenka. We’ll head up to the treehouse for a different perspective. As dusk falls, we’ll embark on a night walk. This offers a unique view of the Amazon rainforest.

On day five, we’ll trek from the treehouse to the Rainforest Lodge. The surroundings will captivate you. The Madre de Dios River here is a sight to behold.

Day six brings our adventure to a close. We will return from the Rainforest Lodge to Paucartambo. Then, it’s back to Cusco, reflecting on the journey. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of this majestic ecosystem.

Day 1Cusco - Paucartambo - Rainforest Lodge

Day one of our Manu National Park Peru Tour promises to be exhilarating. We will leave the vibrant city of Cusco and embark on an adventure to Manu’s natural paradise. Our departure will be quite early, with a pick-up from your hostel scheduled for around 4:00 am.

From Cusco, we will ascend to Acjanaco, the highest point of our trip. It sits at an altitude of 4,000 meters (about 13,123 feet). As we cross the boundary into the Manu Biosphere, you will witness an immediate shift in the environment. Here, we will immerse ourselves in the cloud forest, a biodiversity hotspot filled with captivating wildlife and mesmerizing landscapes.

After a satisfying descent, we will arrive at the port of Atalaya, sitting at an altitude of 650 meters (2,132 feet). We will exchange the land vehicle for a motorized boat. Our journey will intensify as we traverse the tropical jungle via the Madre de Dios River.

An array of birds and animals often frequent the banks of this river. We might be lucky enough to observe them.

Finally, we will settle for the night at the Rainforest Lodge, our first stopover. Here we can reflect on the day’s journey and rest up for the adventures to come.

Day 2RAINFOREST LODGE – CASA MACHIGUENGA

Day two of our Manu Amazon Peru Tour begins at the break of dawn. We will serve breakfast on board our boat, allowing you to enjoy a stunning sunrise over the Madre De Dios River. As the new day dawns, you’ll have another chance to witness the river’s wildlife.

The journey continues along the Manu River, where we will experience the thrill of wildlife spotting. The river banks are teeming with life, including black and white alligators, turtles, and various river birds. If luck is on our side, we might even spot a jaguar. It is a testament to the diverse life in the Manu National Park.

As the day progresses, we will make a stop to explore Cocha Otorongo. Here, an observation tower offers a unique perspective on the surrounding wilderness. It’s a fantastic opportunity for bird watching and experiencing the Amazon rainforest from a vantage point.

Finally, we will arrive at our destination for the night: Casa Matsiguenka. This lodge sits in the heart of the rainforest. It offers a unique chance to spend a night in the midst of nature.

Day 3CASA MACHIGUENGA – COCHA SALVADOR

The third day of our Manu Amazon Peru Tour starts at Casa Matsiguenka. After breakfast, we’ll await our turn assigned by the park ranger to venture into the lakes.

Once our time comes, we’ll set sail on Cocha Salvador in a comfortable catamaran. On this lake trip, expect to see vibrant wildlife. Giant otters will catch your attention with their playful fishing, feeding, and frolicking. Groups of howler and spider monkeys will provide entertainment from the treetops.

Later, we will head deeper into the rainforest. Trekking through winding trails, we’ll explore the lush tropical forest surrounding the lake.

As the sun sets, our adventure does not end. We will embark on a night walk. With only the light of the moon and our flashlights, we’ll seek out the nocturnal creatures of the Amazon.

We will be spending the third night at the Casa Matsiguenka. Here the sounds of the jungle will lull you to sleep.

Day 4CASA MACHIGUENGA – TREE HOUSE LODGE

Day four of our Manu Amazon Peru Tour begins at dawn at Casa Matsiguenka. Early departure allows us to capitalize on the morning light, optimal for wildlife viewing.

As we journey on, the banks of the river offer exciting wildlife encounters. You may spot a jaguar sunbathing at the edge of the forest or caimans lounging on the white sand. You could sight capybaras near the river, foraging for their morning meal. The sight of terns gliding above the water, with the misty forest as their backdrop, will take your breath away.

By afternoon, we will reach the Tree House Inn. This unique accommodation immerses you in the jungle environment, offering a one-of-a-kind lodging experience.

Once the sun sets, the forest will transform. A different set of creatures will stir. Keep your eyes peeled for amphibians, arachnids, and even some nocturnal monkeys. Snakes may also slither out, seeking refuge in the darkness, adding another layer of excitement to your Amazon adventure.

Day 5TREE HOUSE – RAINFOREST LODGE

The fifth day of our Manu Amazon Peru Tour begins leisurely at the Tree House Inn. After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we will visit a local community. This will give you a glimpse into their rich traditions and customs.

As part of the day’s activities, the locals will demonstrate their proficiency with bows and arrows. It is a traditional hunting tool in the jungle. You will even have a chance to try your hand at it.

We will be serving lunch at the Tree House Inn. Following this meal, we will check out and board the boat for our return to the Rainforest Lodge. As dusk descends, we’ll venture out once more, exploring the Manu rainforest under the cover of darkness.

We will then return to the Rainforest Lodge for a good night’s rest.

The final day of our six-day Manu Amazon Peru Tour is starting. We’ll begin with a fulfilling breakfast at the Rainforest Lodge. From there, we’ll navigate our way back to Atalaya pier, enjoying the last moments of tranquility on the river. Awaiting us at the pier will be our private transport, ready to drive us back to the bustling city of Cusco.

Along the way, we’ll make a pause in the picturesque town of Paucartambo. Here, we will enjoy one last lunch together in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. After this break, our journey continues towards Cusco. We predict reaching Cusco by 6:00 PM, marking the end of this immersive rainforest adventure.
