Day 5TREE HOUSE MANU - CLAY LICK

On the fifth day of your Manu National Park Peru tour, we will set off just before dawn. Our destination is a clay lick. It is a spot where hundreds of parakeets, parrots, and pairs of macaws gather to feast on the nutrient-rich soil.

This soil helps them supplement their diet and aids their digestion. Some believe it even neutralizes toxins they ingest from unripe fruits or other foods. If weather and timing align, you might also spot otters fishing for their breakfast nearby.

Post this spectacle, we will return to our jungle house for a hearty breakfast. Then, it’s back to exploring the jungle. We will visit some of the area’s ancient trees (ficus) and bamboo forests.

These unique habitats are rare sights in the Amazon and home to Manu’s diverse flora and fauna. Here, we are likely to see troops of howler monkeys. Additionally, we will witness a spectacular array of birds and insects unique to this region.

Following a typical jungle lunch, a nap will be well-deserved. As night falls, we will embark on a nocturnal walk. This unique experience, surrounded by the jungle’s unfamiliar sounds, is an adventure you will remember.

For the night, we will return to our comfy tree house equipped with showers.

Here are the highlights of the day:

Upon arrival at the Negro River, we will set up camp on its banks. Here, we will have the opportunity to observe and listen to the sounds of the nocturnal creatures that inhabit the area.
