Bright and early on the first day of your Manu National Park Peru tour, you will depart from Cusco. We will travel South East in our exclusive minivan. Our first stop will be the charming colonial village of Paucartambo, where we will enjoy a comforting coffee break.
Our journey will then continue to the highest point, the Acjanaco Pass. Standing at 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) above sea level, it’s an incredible vantage point. You will enter the Manu Biosphere Reserve here, a perfect place for capturing memorable photographs.
Next, we will descend into the enchanting cloud forest. We will organize short investigative walks. On these walks, you will be on the lookout for a multitude of unique birds. Among them are the quetzal, motmot, trogon, toucan, and tangara.
A special treat will be the sighting of the national bird of Peru, the vibrant cock of the rock (Rupícola Peruana).
In addition, two monkey species native to the cloud forest await your discovery. You will have the opportunity to spot the common wooly monkey and the capuchin monkey.
Our final destination for the day is Atalaya, positioned at 600 meters (1,968 feet) above sea level. Here, we will make a short stop for last-minute shopping. Following this, you will board our motorized boat for a thrilling two-hour journey downstream on the Madre de Dios River.
The day will conclude with a restful night at the Rainforest Lodge. Here you can soak in the sounds and sensations of the Amazon.
On the fourth day of your Manu National Park Peru tour, we will leave Casa Machiguenga lodge early in the morning. As we embark on the day’s journey, the morning light will offer ample wildlife sighting opportunities.
From your seat, you will have the chance to spot a majestic jaguar resting at the forest’s edge. You may also see caimans basking on the white sand banks or capybaras foraging near the river. You might spot terns skirting the shore. This creates a captivating sight with the misty forest in the distance.
By the afternoon, we will reach our destination for the day, the Tree House Manu. This unique lodging provides an immersive jungle experience.
After the sun sets, a new set of wildlife comes to life. You will have the chance to spot amphibians, arachnids, and even some nocturnal monkeys. You might also spot snakes taking shelter in the dark. This would enhance your Amazon adventure.
On the fifth day of your Manu National Park Peru tour, we will set off just before dawn. Our destination is a clay lick. It is a spot where hundreds of parakeets, parrots, and pairs of macaws gather to feast on the nutrient-rich soil.
This soil helps them supplement their diet and aids their digestion. Some believe it even neutralizes toxins they ingest from unripe fruits or other foods. If weather and timing align, you might also spot otters fishing for their breakfast nearby.
Post this spectacle, we will return to our jungle house for a hearty breakfast. Then, it’s back to exploring the jungle. We will visit some of the area’s ancient trees (ficus) and bamboo forests.
These unique habitats are rare sights in the Amazon and home to Manu’s diverse flora and fauna. Here, we are likely to see troops of howler monkeys. Additionally, we will witness a spectacular array of birds and insects unique to this region.
Following a typical jungle lunch, a nap will be well-deserved. As night falls, we will embark on a nocturnal walk. This unique experience, surrounded by the jungle’s unfamiliar sounds, is an adventure you will remember.
For the night, we will return to our comfy tree house equipped with showers.
On the sixth day of our Manu National Park Peru tour, we will enjoy breakfast. After that, we will set off further into the jungle. Our destination is the Negro River, a waterway teeming with aquatic life and surrounded by diverse flora and fauna.
Upon arrival at the Negro River, we will set up camp on its banks. Here, we will have the opportunity to observe and listen to the sounds of the nocturnal creatures that inhabit the area. If the weather is favorable, we could also engage in some fishing. This will set us up for a delightful jungle breakfast the following morning.
Camping by the river provides a unique experience. There might be a possible fishing adventure. Finally, you’ll enjoy the unique sounds of nocturnal animals.
The seventh day of the Manu National Park Peru Tour awaits us. We will savor a scrumptious breakfast in the heart of nature. Having experienced and explored this river and its surroundings, we will head back to the Manu Tree House.
Here, we will pack up our tents and hop into our canoe. We will be traversing down the Black River until we reach the Palotoa River. The Manu Tree House, located by the Palotoa River, will be our next destination.
We will be engaging in our final and soothing activity – tubing. It’s relaxing, fun, and a great way to enjoy the natural beauty of the river. We will let the gentle currents carry us downstream, soaking in the ambiance of the pristine Amazon Basin.
