Manu Reserved Zone Tour Details

Manu Reserved Zone Tours is an all-inclusive tour of Peru’s Amazon Rainforest. In this tour, we will pick you up from Cusco and have a local English-speaking guide take you to the astonishing rainforest region of Manu for seven days. There, you will experience breathtaking sightings of flora and fauna unique to the area and learn about the Amazonian beliefs and culture.

You certainly don’t want to miss out on our amazing accommodation package! Our exclusive Treehouse INN accommodates you right in the heart of the rainforest!

Manu Rainforest is located to the east of Peru and is the greatest feature of the Peruvian Amazon. It stretches over 1,532,806 hectares and is home to 6,500 communities speaking Quechua. Also residing in this immense cultural area is the astounding Amazon Jungle, one of the most enormous cloud forests in the world.

To make the forest more user-friendly, Manu Rainforest has been compartmentalised into better accessible zones: Manu Reserved Zone, Cultural Zone, and Core Zone. The extremely winding Madre de Dios River connects these zones.

The local team from the Manu region has extensive experience and an understanding of the region’s life and customs.

With nature all around, you will undoubtedly see many animals, birds, and trees while carefully running on the exclusive trails around our Treehouse Inn.

In 1987, Manu, Peru, was established as a UNESCO world heritage site. Due to its famous surroundings, it is well known in the Peruvian Amazon region, making it a good place for tourists to visit. This allows travellers to easily start the Manu Amazon Tour before or after going to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

Day 1Paucartambo-Paucartambo-Cusco-Port Atalaya-Manu Lodge rainforest

The 7-day Manu Reserved Zone Tours will start with an early morning pickup from the hotel in Cusco. After Wrapping up the hotel formalities, my plan for the day was to drive through the grasslands of the Andes and reach the Amazon territory. Along the journey, I expect to see beautiful views of the high Andean mountains.

We will have a small break for Lunch in Paucartambo, a town in the Andean region famous for folk dances and songs. It is located 2906m above sea level (9534ft). Here, we will serve you a traditional breakfast. A local guide will present the town’s details and exaggerate folklore sights.

The people of Paucartambo live away from Paucartambo, but they do not have access to modern civilisation, so they stick to their customs.

When we finish being charmed by the town, we will drive to a beautiful overlook known as Tres Cruces or Acjano Pass.

This is the highest point on the Manu Rainforest tour from Cusco. It is 3900 meters above sea level (12795 ft) and offers an awe-inspiring view of the Amazon basin.

Manu Biosphere Reserve:

After you cherish the view, we will drive you down the hill to Manu Cloud Forest. Here, we will do a short tour. You will be able to view a variety of flora and fauna. We will also tour different orchid farms.

This region of Manu Biosphere Reserve is inhabited by the National Birds of Peru, the Andean cock of the rock. Here, you can also observe the cappuccino monkey and woolly monkey.

After relishing the native meal for lunch, we will be transferring you to Atalaya port. Here, we will be starting a trip by motorboat through the Madre de Dios River. As we will be sailing to Machuwasi Lake, you will be able to see different species of mammals including giant otters and giant armadillos.

We will make a brief stop here before continuing our chartered boat trip for another two hours to Manu Rain Forest Lodge, located in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.

After checking into your room, our crew will be serving you an Amazonian dinner.

If you’re up for it, we might take a short night hike and see if we can find any nocturnal animals.

Day 2Manu Rainforest Lodge - Casa Matsiguenka Lodge

We will start our day by taking a boat trip on the Alto Madre de Dios River, which will take us to the Manu Reserved Zone Tours. We will first serve breakfast after the trip at Boca Manu, which will be a bit after sunrise. After breakfast, we will switch courses and start riding the Manu River.

During the boat ride, capybaras, alligators, and jaguars will be in plain sight on the shotes. In the biosphere reserve, herons can be seen on the river feeding and the banks of the Manu River.

The Matsiguenka Indigenous communities run Casa Matsiguenka Lodge, which has 12 double bedrooms. After arriving at the lodge, we will serve everyone a traditional Amazonian lunch around noon.

After lunch, we will head to the Manu Reserved Zone for your introduction.

We will start with a stop at Otorongo Lake. There is an observatory tower that you can take. From the top, you will get an all-encompassing view of the Amazon Rainforest.

After the sun sets, dinner will be served and we will all be resting for the night.

Day 3Casa Matsiguenka Lodge

Your time in the Manu Reserved Zone Tours is precious, so we will make the most of it. Having enjoyed a local breakfast, we will travel to Cocha Salvador on a typical jungle vessel, the Catamaran.

While using the Catamaran, keep your eyes peeled! The various wildlife that lives in the Amazon will be a sight to see. You are almost guaranteed to see Giant River Otters, Black Caimans, and Alligators. Additionally, numerous species of distinct monkeys and birds will be able to be seen.

In the afternoon, we will head back to the lodge for lunch. Later in the evening, you will have some free time, and you can choose to swim, hike, or rest in peace in the Amazon Rainforest.

After dinner, we will give you a night tour. After this tour, you will Head back to the lodge with us. On this Manu Reserved Zone Tours, you will view Alligators, Tapirs, Owls, and even Snakes!

Day 4Casa Matsiguenka Lodge - Treehouse Inn

At 4:30 AM, we will be packing up from Casa Matsiguenka Lodge. Then, we will be heading out on a roughly 12-hour boat ride on a Peke through the Manu River and then the Palotoa River.

We are all too familiar with the sound of a peke. It is named after the sound of its motor.

We’re going to be sailing far onto the Manu Jungle, where our magical Treehouse boarded INN is nested.

Treehouse Inn is best reachable via Treehouse INN, which boars our exclusive family-owned Treehouse. Its cloud forest’s stunning views during the boat ride from Manu Rainforest Lodge to Treehouse INN is breathtakingly beautiful. Other than this, you also get a chance to witness different mammals and rodents like Capybaras, which are stunning and rare.

The boat ride gives an opportunity to spot the stunning views along the river bank. You will also come across numerous birds, animals, and even mammals such as Jaguars. Upon arriving near Boca Manu, we will have the chance to see the beautiful sunrise as well, which is truly unforgettable.

We will serve breakfast on the boat to help maximise your time with us.

Next, we will shift gears upstream through the harder-to-navigate waters of the Madre de Dios River and head toward the Palotoa River. This portion of the boat ride is a bit long, but it offers stunning views to enjoy on the way.

The river is full of life and allows you to witness many bird species while they eat fish. Truly spectacular!

After reaching the Palotoa River, we will ride the smaller boat (Peke Peke) and then continue the adventure to the Treehouse.

We are going to reach Treehouse at dusk.

Day 5Parrot Clay Lick/ Macaws Clay Lick – Manu Jungle Tour – Treehouse Inn – River Tubing

For today’s leg, we are departing before the sun comes up to view Parrots Clay Lick. This is the most stunning vista in Manu National Park and certainly something not to be missed. You will be able to observe hundreds of vividly coloured parrots perched on the cliff, happily eating clay.

It is also possible to observe how the clay contains a special mineral that assists them in purging toxins from their body. After seeing everything you want to see, we will head back to Treehouse INN for breakfast.

Post breakfast, we will start hiking along the other major route that circles the community. Different medicinal plants are grown in this area, and you will hear our tour guide speak about their uses in detail throughout the tour.

In the deeper part of the jungle, notice the jaguar, Puma Anteater, sloth, and tapir from a distance in their natural surroundings. Before mid-day, we will return to our lodge for lunch.

The rest of the day is free time. In the Palotoa River, try some river tubing in the super clean waters.

Dinner will be served after enjoying the sunset over the Amazon.

Tonight, we will take another trip into the jungle to look for other night-active animals.

Day 6 Treehouse Inn - Manu Rainforest Lodge

The sixth day of the Manu Amazon Tour is the most easy-going. After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will visit a local community. Here, you will get to learn about their cultural practices and rituals.

They will show their mastery of the use of bows and arrows that serve as primitive hunting tools in the jungle. You may test your skill with this conventional weapon.

Lunch will be served at Treehouse INN. After lunch, we will check out and take a boat back to the Rainforest Lodge. After dinner, we will explore this part of the Manu Rainforest.

Rounding off the day we will stay in the Rainforest Lodge.

Day 7Manu Rainforest Lodge to Atalaya Port to Paucartambo to Cusco

After breakfast, we will head back. The sailing route leads to Atalaya pier. Our private transport will be waiting at the pier to take you back to Cusco city. On the return journey of Manu Reserved Zone Tours, we will stop once more in Paucartambo for lunch.

We’ll arrive in Cusco at around 6 o’clock in the evening.
